Bay Vigil

 Rye beach August 2005

Welcome through the vortex to the next stage of our journey! Wow, and phew! Amazing amount of energy around. It is best to utilise it in some way. Let it flow on with blessings.

Tomorrow the moon enters Aquarius and aligns with Chiron then on Saturday 15th December 2007 the moon conjuncts Neptune in Aquarius. If you are roaming around outside in the balmy summer night – you may get to see the annual Geminid showers.* They will be on show from midnight to dawn especially the  dates of 14th and 15th December. Holy Sprinkles!

Our new PM has just declared passionately to the world at the Bali Conference on Climate Change, that we are stewards of this planet and that’ we have no where else to go’.

We here in Victoria are very concerned about the proposed dredging of our beloved Port Phillip and Westernport bays for short term monetary gain. The Blue Wedges Coalition* is taking the matter to the Federal Court on 10th January 2008. On 8th January 2008, I am calling all lovers of our Bays to a Vigil of Light. May we surround the Bays with people holding torches and lanterns to declare and demonstrate our concern. The letter below says it all. Please share this call for responsible stewardship of our beautiful planet.

To the Victorian Government:

We, the people, have presented you with a mandate to STOP your plan to dredge Port Phillip Bay. Your press statement explains that

Melbourne Ports wants to expand further. You say we have enjoyed 17 consecutive years of growth. This tells us that the dredging for expansion is NOT a necessity. Dr David Suzuki travelled the world to speak with many of us about sustainability.

How many people’s livelihoods are you prepared to ruin? Who stands to gain? Not the marine life, nor the swimmers, the sailors, the fisherfolk, the tourist trades, the walkers and joggers around the bay, the estates along the shoreline, the children who play at the water’s edge, the divers or the marine scientists.

One hundred years of toxic silt and sludge stirred up and redumped in our Bay – for monetary greed? Two years of non-stop noise and vibration from a monstrous depth machining process will ruin the peaceful ambience and drive many people insane. The widening and deepening of the channel WILL change the tides.

Why is this proposal still being relentlessly pursued?

We, the people, have said and still say, NO to the dredging of Port Phillip Bay.

Our PM has just spoken to the World Conference in Bali about our human stewardship of this planet. The Port of Melbourne and Victorian Government officials are included in that stewardship. You KNOW the consequences – that is why you have pushed through legislation to ensure you cannot be sued for damages to people’s livelihoods. Fair Go Mate!

You are on notice.

On the night of 8th January, we shall line the shores from Portsea to Queenscliff in a Vigil of Lights to show the world we care.
